Graduate university study programme of Nursing

The Graduate university study programme of Nursing is acknowledged from before as university study programme in the USA and in the European Union (especially in the Scandinavian and Benelux countries, Great Britain and Ireland). By graduating from such a programme it is possible to work in highly responsible positions of the health system, in the education of nurses and to continue education at the postgraduate study programme in the mentioned countries. 


The new study programme, Graduate university study programme of Nursing, is a continuation of the programme Undergraduate university study programme of Nursing and with the right scientific approach and execution of clinical classes in individual modules it enables development of new well-educated experts in the field of health care, which represents a new step in university education in the scientific field of Nursing, thus is the suggested study programme of strategic significance for the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek and the development of the scientific field of Nursing. The gained masters of nursing, depending on the chosen module, will be guarantees of increase in quality of nursing education, increase of quality in health care and increase in organised promotion of health as well as better health initiatives in the community. 


Basic features of the Graduate university study programme of Nursing:
  • The study programme and the foreseen organisation of the programme are aligned with the stipulations of the Bologna declaration, the Graduate university study programme of Nursing is a continuation of education that is conducted in two educating cycles: undergraduate study programme lasts 3 academic years, i.e. 6 semesters and the graduate study programme lasts 2 academic years, i.e. 4 semesters.
  • The goal of the Graduate university study programme of Nursing is educating experts for independent work in clinical hospitals, health institutions and institutes, as well as for collaborative work on scientific and clinical research (projects, communication and presentation) on higher education institutions of health. 
  • A particular strategic goal is to enable scientific improvement in the scientific field of Nursing, to get extraordinary new teaching staff that will, after completing the graduate study programme, be competent to independently carry out classes in the field of health care, to participate in the research work and carry on with scientific improvement at the postgraduate doctoral study programme of Biomedicine and health.
  • In compliance with the structure of the suggested study programme it is evident that the classes are held in groups according to various fields; through lectures, seminars, clinical and methodical practical classes, individual work of students where mentors participate and through other extracurricular and teaching activities. 
  • Participation of guest lecturers from abroad according to the signed contracts on collaboration and of renowned national and foreign experts in the field of medical care and within the scientific field of Nursing, but also within other scientific fields since the study programme contains a significant amount of interdisciplinary elements.
  • Connecting scientific cognitions, specialist knowledge and professional skills through particularly practical conduction of clinical practical classes in the field of health care in the teaching bases of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek.


Conditions of enrolment into the study programme

This study programme enables further education, on the principles of equality, vertical and horizontal mobility throughout the educational system to people who have:

  • graduated from the undergraduate university study programme of nursing
  • graduated from the professional study programme of nursing with teaching load of at least 180 ECTS points and finished the differential programme
  • graduated from a similar professional or university undergraduate study programme (field of biomedicine and health) and finished the differential programme
  • grade point average of at least 3,5

The choice of candidates will be carried out by an examination panel organised by the Faculty that will transparently choose the best candidates.


Duration of study programme

The suggested programme lasts four (4) semesters, i.e. 2 academic years (120 ECTS)

Competences students acquire by graduating from the suggested study programme

After completing two years, i.e. 4 semesters (120 ECTS) of the Graduate university study programme of Nursing students will be competent, depending on the elective courses they choose, to carry out classes in the field of health care, to organise, analyse and examine models of patient care with holistic approach to the patient, to collaborate on clinical research or to continue their education towards the doctoral studies. They are qualified for independent work in the educational system of health workers at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek and its teaching bases, as well as at other universities where health workers are educated on basic or bachelor level. Beside the teaching competences, if they decide to, students will, after graduating from the study programme, be qualified to take on the most responsible tasks in organising health care at clinical departments and in the community. 


After graduating from the programme it is possible to continue the education in the doctoral university study programme of Biomedicine and health, which is available at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek.


Possibilities for further education


After graduating from this study programme it is possible for students to continue their education on the university education vertical in the field of biomedicine and health (diagram of students’ mobility of the FDMH).
