BASIC ACTIVITY
The basic activity of the Institute for Integrative Psychiatry is scientific activity in the field of biomedicine and health, i.e. psychiatry. The institute consists of the following scientific-teaching units: TMS Laboratory, Neurofeedback laboratory, medico-biochemical laboratory, laboratory of medical diagnostics – internist and neurological, two stationary departments: male department of integrative psychiatry and female department of integrative psychiatry, Day hospital – Programme of integrative psychiatry and Day hospital for first-episode psychotic disorders, a library, reading room, information technology room, lecture rooms and class rooms.
The programme of integrative psychiatry is carried out by a multidisciplinary team that is lead by a psychiatrist and consists of: psychologists, neurologists, medical staff with high school education and with higher education, work therapist, social worker and physiotherapist. Team work and an integrative approach are the key to timely identification of disorder diseases, treatment and rehabilitation. Special emphasis is put on comorbidities, especially with somatic diseases and disorders because they occur very frequently and compromise the course of the primary disease and interfere with the choice and effectiveness of the psychopharmacologic treatment. The treatment is conducted through personalised pharmacotherapy along with monitoring and supervision of interactions and side-effects, through group and individual psychotherapy, through cognitive behavioural therapy, work therapy, art therapy, physiotherapy and through group and individual work. The goal of this specific programme is to improve life quality, to reduce stigma and treatment expenses; it is scientifically proven that it reduces mortality and morbidity of chronic physical diseases with psychiatry patients and improves life quality.
