On October 10 and 11, 2019, the 2nd Postgraduate Course of Continuing Medical Education of the 1st category was held in Orahovica: REHABILITATION IN CLINICAL MEDICINE - Cardiovascular Rehabilitation.
Cardiovascular disease is known to be the leading, growing public health problem nowdays. During 2018, the number of deaths from circulatory system diseases decreased in the Republic of Croatia, and the total mortality rate was 43.09%. However, we are still in the group of high-risk countries. The question that just arises is how to improve cardiovascular prevention and make it more effective. In the last thirty years, CVD mortality has been halved. This can be attributed to modifications in risk factors. This favourable trend could have been even better had it not been partially replaced by the rise of other risk factors, mainly type 2 diabetes and obesity. High blood pressure, smoking, diabetes and hyperlipidemia are still major risk factors for developing coronary artery disease, while physical inactivity, obesity, poor diet and poor socioeconomic status are considered predisposing factors that negatively affect quality of life as well as patient prognosis. It is quite certain that the future brings more new insights into the above, but what is known in cardiovascular prevention today is enough that it can be applied immediately.
The course is organized by the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek, Croatian Cardiac Society, Working Group for Prevention and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Diseases, Working Group for E-Cardiology, Thalassotherapia Opatija / Polyclinic Srčana / Special hospital for medical rehabilitation Krapinske Toplice.
The course leaders are: Prof. Aleksandar Včev, MD, Ph.D., Prof. Viktor Peršić, MD, Ph.D., Prof. Goran Krstačić, MD, Ph.D. and Assist. Prof. Duško Cerovec, MD, Ph.D.
