The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek hosted Prof. Dr. E. Angeles Martinez-Mier from the Indiana University School of Dentistry, Indiana University, USA.
Prof. Dr. E. Angeles Martinez-Mier, DDS, MSD, PhD, Associate Dean for Global Engagement, Professor and Chair of Dental Public Health and Dental Informatics, and Indiana University Bicentennial Professor at the Indiana University School of Dentistry, visited the Faculty as part of a professional visit focused on establishing bilateral cooperation between the Indiana University School of Dentistry and the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek.
The Indiana University School of Dentistry is one of the oldest dental schools in the United States and the only dental school in the state of Indiana. Based at Indiana University in Indianapolis, it is engaged in education, research, clinical care, public health, and community service in the field of oral and systemic health, with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, clinical practice, and international collaboration.
During her visit, Prof. Dr. Martinez-Mier was hosted by Prof. Dr. Martina Smolić, Vice Dean for Science and Postgraduate Studies, and Prof. Dr. Robert Smolić, Chair of the Department of Clinical Medicine and Director of the Mursa Medical Center. Discussions focused on opportunities to develop academic, educational, professional, and research cooperation, with particular emphasis on student and faculty mobility.
The proposed bilateral cooperation will include student and faculty exchanges, short-term professional visits, guest lectures, participation in teaching and clinical activities, the development of joint research projects, workshops, summer schools, and the exchange of experience in dental medicine, public health, oral disease prevention, and the internationalization of study programs. The possibility of incoming students from the Indiana University School of Dentistry completing part of their professional training at the Mursa Medical Center was also discussed.
We look forward to continued cooperation with the Indiana University School of Dentistry in strengthening international mobility, academic excellence, and knowledge exchange in dental medicine and health.
