From October 12 to 14, the 46th Croatian Innovation Salon - INOVA 2022 and the 18th Exhibition of Innovations, Prototypes and Student Business Plans - Be a Role Model ® 2022 were held under the motto "INNOVATION WEEK". BUDI UZOR® has been held since 2005 as an international exhibition of innovations, prototypes and student business plans. The organizers of the BUDI UZOR® exhibition, TERA Tehnopolis d.o.o. and the Croatian Association of Innovators of Entrepreneurs (HUIP), hosted this year's joint BUDI UZOR®/INOVA exhibition. Participation in the exhibition enables the presentation of creativity and entrepreneurial ideas, which, when translated into a business plan, provide insight into the possibility of their commercialization.
The Translational Medicine Laboratory of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek presented its innovation "A cell culture model for improved prediction of drug-induced fatty liver disease ", authored by Prof. Dr.Sc. Martina Smolić, and co-author Dr. sc. Tee Omanović Kolarić, doc. Ph.D. Tomislav Kizivat, Ph.D. Vjere Mihaljević, Ph.D. Milorad Zjalić, associate professor Ph.D. Ines Bilić-Ćurčić, Ph.D. Lucije Kuna, associate professor Ph.D. Robert Smolić, prof. Ph.D. Aleksandra Včeva, and prof. Ph.D. George Y Wu.
Hepatotoxicity is the main reason for withdrawal of drugs from the market. Therefore, there is an increasing need for methods for timely detection of drug-induced liver damage caused by drugs and for finding effective pharmacotherapeutic solutions. In vitro testing systems are being established to reduce the unnecessary number of experiments on laboratory animals, which would be of great importance not only ethically but also economically. The research group of the Translational Medicine Laboratory presented such a model at BUDI UZOR®/INOVA. Competing with more than 400 innovations from 23 countries of the world, the Gold Medal and the Special Award for the Best Innovation in Applied Sciences were awarded to the innovation of the Translational Medicine Laboratory of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek.
