On December 10th, 2024, a cycle of education was completed in collaboration with HORKA communications. The cycle consisted of four modules: Setting and communicating boundaries, Conflict management: how to build constructive interactions, Professional communication in the healthcare sector, and Emotional intelligence in communication, and was held by Katarina Horvat, mag. cult. over eight weeks online on the Zoom platform.
The goal of the first module, Setting and communicating boundaries, was to learn how to set clear boundaries in everyday communication as well as respect the boundaries of another person. Some of the topics were: defining personal boundaries, assertive communication techniques, understanding and respecting other people's boundaries, and nonviolent communication techniques.
The second module, Conflict Management: How to Build Constructive Interactions, provided participants with an insight into the techniques needed to identify, understand and effectively resolve conflicts in a constructive manner with an emphasis on potential conflict situations in the professional environment - the health sector.
The aim of the third module, Professional communication in the healthcare sector, was to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the key elements that make up professional communication in healthcare and their application in communication with patients and other healthcare personnel. Some of the topics were: determinants of successful communication with patients, existential positions according to transactional analysis, communication with aggressive and anxious patients and business communication standards.
The fourth module, Emotional intelligence in communication, covered the following topics: adaptation to the environment, the difference between feelings and emotions, knowing the world in three elements, intensity and duration of feelings, affect, control of emotions and emotional shock.
The Student Council of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health in Osijek would like to thank Katarina Horvat for another successful collaboration and the transfer of extremely useful knowledge in the field of communications, as well as the students for their expressed interest in improving their communication knowledge and skills.
