A new valuable medical work by medical expert Prim. Prof. Aleksandar Včev, MD, PhD was presented at the restaurant “Ložiona” in Orahovica – “Clinical Pathophysiology of the Respiratory System”, which will become a textbook for medical students.
The book was presented in the presence of Ivan Kopitović, a full professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad and an expert who works at the Institute of Pulmonary Diseases of Vojvodina in Sremska Kamenica as the head of the Service for Pathophysiology of Breathing and Respiratory Diseases During Sleep, Barbara Ebling from the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health in Osijek as book reviewers, the mayor of Orahovica Saša Rister, the principal of the “Stjepan Ivšić” High School in Orahovica Davor Jeger.
Professor Ivan Kopitović from the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad gave the introduction, introducing the institute he comes from and then Dr. Včev’s book, emphasizing that it is a huge step forward in medicine and a valuable textbook for all medical students.
I am extremely proud and glad that I was given the opportunity to be a reviewer of such an educational book because, in my opinion, it was done in a superb way. This book analyzes respiratory functions in great detail through various aspects, starting from the structural content of the respiratory system to physiological aspects. The later part of the book discusses disorders of the respiratory system, which includes numerous diseases and pathological conditions that can occur in the respiratory system. The detail and precision of the data in this book fascinated me because the level of application of this book is wide in terms of medicine, which is very important and valuable - said Kopitović.
He then emphasized that this book is a continuation of the excellent cooperation between medical experts from Croatia and Serbia.
We have been cooperating with medical experts from Croatia for a long time, especially with this Faculty, so I really liked this ambitious project of Dean Včev. I must also say that my cooperation with the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health on the subject of respiratory systems will expand even further, because in the future we will also have cooperation on the issue of breathing disorders during sleep. This is known among the people as snoring and difficulty breathing, which is extremely important because a third of people have this disorder during sleep, and this can lead to heart disease and diabetes, as well as increased daytime sleepiness, which causes particular problems when driving a car and other means of transport – said Kopitović.
A few words about the book were said by reviewer Barbara Ebling, praising this work, and then the author Aleksandar Včev himself spoke, emphasizing that he had been working on the book for several years and that he was overjoyed that it had seen the light of day.
This book is related to lung diseases, which is actually the second part of our story in the direction of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation in Orahovica. So, we have already developed this cardiological part very well, and now we will fully develop the pulmonary part, in which Dr. Kopitović from the Institute in Sremska Kamenica will help us a lot, because soon four of our young assistants will go to the Institute to receive education in pulmonary diseases – said Včev.
He emphasized that Orahovica will gain another important segment of treatment and medicine.
We want to bring the possibility of testing sleep apnea to Orahovica. This segment is very important because it often occurs and, especially when driving, causes major accidents. We also want Orahovica to be the main Center for continental Croatia for sleep disorders, or as everyone in medicine knows it better as sleep apnea. This is something that is also related to our dental students, because there are certain splints that dentists implant in patients so that they can have a peaceful sleep and good oxygenation during the night - concluded Včev.
The mayor of Orahovica, Saša Rister, emphasized how proud he was that this valuable book was promoted in Orahovica, especially because of the fact that this city will gain another valuable health resort.
We know that Orahovica is rich in clean air and that we once had a health resort for lung diseases, and that is why I am especially glad that this story is returning to Orahovica and that we will once again have a health resort in the field of lung diseases, and this is a continuation of our desire to promote health tourism in the city. I believe that all of this will lead to a new story in our high school in the direction of new medical majors, which would bring a new big step in the development of our city. Thank you to Dean Včev for everything he does for our city, and we are here to be his friend and partner in all his projects – concluded Rister.
