The Student Council of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health in Osijek, in collaboration with Nutrimama – Ana Jelekovac Jurkin, successfully organized a training on the topic of "Child Nutrition - Basics and Potential Challenges". The training was held online via the ZOOM platform from January 8th, 2025 to February 19th, 2025, and brought together 30 students who had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of child nutrition.
The training lecturers were Ana Jelekovac Jurkin, MSc in Nutrition, a nutrition expert, and Monika Ivanović, MSc in Speech Therapy, who specializes in oral motor skills and orofacial disorders. During the training, participants learned about key aspects of infant and preschool nutrition, with a special emphasis on introducing solid foods between the ages of 6 and 12 months.
Through 7 modules, topics such as:
- The importance of complementary feeding and the role of milk in infant nutrition,
- Nutrients and allergenic foods,
- Challenges such as picky eating,
- Practical techniques for overcoming dietary challenges
were covered.
A particularly interesting part of the training was the module dedicated to oral restrictions and orofacial myofunctional disorders, presented by Monika Ivanović. Participants had the opportunity to hear practical advice and examples from everyday work with children.
At the end of the training, all participants were awarded certificates of participation, with the note that obtaining them required regular attendance, active communication and an active camera during the duration of the program.
