Since its opening, the newly built Center for Diagnostics, Treatment and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Diseases in Orahovica has grown into a proper small health center that encompasses several branches of medicine. Thus, in addition to cardiological examinations, this Center can also perform dental and physiotherapy treatments, and today a new page in the history of Orahovica has been written – with the first gastroscopy and colonoscopy examinations.
The first examination was performed by a team of experts, Prof. Aleksandar Včev, PhD, Prof. Robert Smolić, PhD, Nikola Volarić, PhD, Lidija Tomas, Martina Govorko and Maja Čebohin, PhD. Regarding the first historical examination, Aleksandar Včev said that this is a big step for this part of Slavonia and that the introduction of gastroscopy and colonoscopy in Orahovica will make it much easier for patients throughout Slavonia.
Today we opened the clinic that was created based on the agreement between our Faculty and the Virovitica-Podravina County Health Center, which has passed the accreditation of the Ministry of Health and now we are just waiting for the director of the VPŽ Health Center, Ivica Fotez, to obtain a permit from the Croatian Health Insurance Institute, so that patients with a referral can come to our clinic – said Dr. Aleksandar Včev, winner of the Virovitica-Podravina County Annual Award for 2024, who explained what examinations and possibilities are available in this new clinic.
This is a gastroscopy, or examination of the upper part of the digestive tract, and a colonoscopy, an examination of the lower part of the digestive tract, which we performed today without anesthesia, and an anesthesia machine is already in the process of being purchased, so we will soon have the possibility of these examinations here under anesthesia with a professional anesthesiologist - Ninoslava Vonić. This is a great opportunity and relief for patients in this part of Slavonia and beyond, so that they do not have to wait months for such examinations – said Včev.
Robert Smolić, director of the Mursa healthcare company operating in the Center, is also happy and satisfied with the new conditions and the new clinic for such examinations.
Until now, all patients who needed such examinations had to go to Osijek, Našice or Virovitica, queues formed, and now this is also possible in Orahovica. I am very proud of my Faculty and that we have managed to make something like this possible in Orahovica. The need for such examinations is increasing and this has brought us closer to people, which will significantly help in the prevention and early detection of digestive system cancer – said Smolić.
Lidija Tomas, former head nurse for gastroenterology at Clinical Hospital Center Osijek, emphasized that the possibility of these examinations is a great potential not only for Orahovica, but for the entire part of continental Croatia.
These possibilities will significantly relieve the burden on the Clinical Hospital Center Osijek and surrounding hospitals and, most importantly, people will be able to undergo these examinations much faster. These are demanding examinations and I can say that people from these areas will now decide for them more easily because the examination is in their city, and the conditions are the same as in large clinical centers. Then, after the examination, these people are closer to home and do not have to drive long to rest after the examination, which is also desirable and good – said Tomas.
Maja Čebohin, also former head nurse of the Gastroenterology Department at Clinical Hospital Center Osijek, spoke about the conditions in the Orahovica Center, praising the ambiance and the entire atmosphere.
Upon entering this Center, all the senses come alive. Simply put, the ambiance here is special, when you walk through the corridors everything seems relaxing and calming, and when you take into account all the possibilities and the high-quality and modern devices used, then everything is clear. All praise to Dr. Včev for this move that is exclusively focused on people, that is, patients, which is the most important thing for all of us – said Čebohin.
The nurse who will take care of these examinations in Orahovica is Martina Govorko, who has 15 years of work in the Emergency Medical Service at the General County Hospital in Našice.
After 15 years of work in Našice, I decided to come here to Orahovica, a small town with a big heart, and work with a top-notch professional and wonderful team, which is a special challenge for me. I am glad that these examinations can be performed in smaller communities and we will do our best to make people feel comfortable here and make these examinations as easy as possible for them – concluded Govorko.
