On November 15th, 2024, as part of the IPA Interreg DAADRAC project, an extremely productive and educational workshop was held at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health in Osijek, during which our faculty was visited by colleagues and project partners from the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Environmental Protection of the Faculty of Science of the University of Novi Sad (PMFNS).
Assoc. Prof. Srđan Bjedov, PhD from PMFNS presented the project and its key points, and Prof. Martina Smolić, PhD highlighted the biological aspects of the project with a focus on cellular response at the molecular level and the implications of multidrug-resistant cell cultures for research into multidrug resistance.
After a short break, the practical part of the workshop focused on laboratory techniques. Ana Petrović,MD introduced the attendees to the basics of working with cell cultures and gene expression analysis using qPCR, while Marija Hefer, MSc explained the methods and tests for determining cytotoxicity. Renata Sikora, DMD gave a presentation on the use of innovative Luminex technology in cell research.
After a joint lunch that provided an additional opportunity for getting to know each other and exchanging ideas, the afternoon was reserved for practical work in the laboratory. Participants had the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge through work with HepG2 cells, MTS tests and analyses under a microscope. This “hands-on” workshop enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of the presented techniques and methods and their application in practice.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our colleagues from the University of Novi Sad for their visit and look forward to future cooperation!
