FOREIGN LANGUAGE I

The main objective of the course of foreign language is to familiarize and to master the basics of medical terms that are used in various health professions.

The course contains grammar basics of chosen language (English,German,French),word structure, basics of medical terms. Organic systems, most common diseases, and specific fields of oncology, pharmacology and psychiatry are processed.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. analyze medical terms and determine the meaning of prefix, suffix or word root in relation to the medical term as a whole
  2. apply knowledge of medical suffixes, prefixes and combining forms when creating medical terms
  3. correlate English medical terms related to the body as a whole (types of cells, tissues, organs, body systems: body cavities and organs located in them) to equivalent Croatian language terminology; differentiate among English medical terms for position, direction as well as body planes
  4. Identify the most important parts of musculoskeletal and nerve system, describe their functions, distinguish the most frequent disorders and plan the physiotherapy assessment and management accordingly (using professional terminology of physiotherapy).
