PATHOLOGY

Students study the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease and the functional and morphological changes of cells, tissues and organs caused by pathological processes. Students are introduced to the basics of work and research methods in pathology and the role of pathology in the diagnostic process. Students get acquainted with the pathology of organs and organ systems: definition, etiology and pathogenesis of the disease, epidemiology, pathology, clinical picture and clinical-pathological correlations.

General pathology: cellular pathology, inflammation, disorders of the immune system, disorders of body fluids and hemodynamics, neoplasms, developmental and genetic diseases and childhood diseases, techniques in pathology.

Special pathology: vascular diseases, heart diseases, diseases of blood-forming organs and lymph nodes, diseases of the respiratory system, diseases of the digestive system, diseases of the liver and biliary system, diseases of the pancreas, kidneys and urinary system, diseases of the male reproductive system, diseases of the female genital system, breast diseases, endocrine system diseases, skin diseases, nervous system diseases.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1.      Compare the causes of cell damage, determine the mechanisms of their occurence and select the types of adaptation and cell damage.

2.      Classify the inflammatory reaction, compare acute with chronic inflammation, and select appropriate morphological forms of inflammation.

3.      Present certain types of disorders of immune reactions and select the appropriate morphological damage and ultimately the disease.

4.      Identify forms of body fluid disorders and hemodynamics and select their morphological characteristics and clinical presentation.

5.      Evaluate neoplasms, biology of tumor growth, epidemiology of neoplasms, carcinogens, tumor immunity and clinical features of tumors.

6.      Evaluate certain forms of developmental and genetic diseases and diseases of newborns and children.

7.      Evaluate etiopathogenetic factors that lead to tissue and organ damage, select morphological features and assess the appropriate clinical picture.
