GYNAECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS

Students will be presented with basic clinical cases of the most common diseases in the field of gynaecology and obstetrics.

Students will be enabled to understand pathophysiological backgrounds and symptomatology of the most common gynaecologic diseases with the goal to apply the mentioned content in health care of mothers and children. 

Menstrual cycle. Disorders in the menstrual cycle. Infertility in marriage. Pregnancy and delivery. Pathological changes during pregnancy and delivery. Infant monitoring. Puerperium. Miscarriage and premature delivery. Ectopic pregnancy. Acute and chronic inflammation of the female reproductive system. Sexually transmitted diseases. Benign and malignant tumours of the female reproductive system.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. argue the physiological processes of the menstrual cycle, fertilization, pregnancy and childbirth, as well as their disorder
  2. recognize and distinguish the most common symptoms of gynecological diseases and take appropriate procedures in the diagnosis and treatment
  3. identify the role of the nurse in recognizing and monitoring symptoms during pregnancy, childbirth, puerperium, as well as after surgical gynecological procedures.
  4. recognize and intervene in disorders in the newborn
  5. interpret the legislation in the Republic of Croatia related to abortion and sexual intercourse with a minor
  6. to conduct education on methods of prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and methods of primary and secondary prevention of malignant diseases of the female reproductive system
  7. conduct education on contraception
