HEALTH CARE OF PATIENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

The goal is to familiarize a student with the problem of approaching the people with disability and children with developmental disabilities in accordance with modern approaches to this population. The student will be trained to collect data, plan, implement and evaluate health care, and to participate in work as a member of multidisciplinary team.

Health care of person with disability within a family; Health care process in care with people with disability (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation); Specific approach in health care implementation for person with below average intellectual functioning; Autism; People with sight disability; People with hearing disability; People with motor disorder; Assistive devices for people with disability; Child with a neuro risk; Nurse's role in work within a family with a child with developmental disabilities; Nurse's role in a team for early intervention and rehabilitation; Life quality of people with disability; Ethical aspects of care for people with disability; Holistic approach to work with people with disability; Disability prevention and health promotion; Mental health of people with disability – nurse's role.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. choose an appropriate approach following the specific needs of persons with disabilities;
  2. argue the ways of approach following the specifics of impairment in persons with disabilities and children with disabilities;
  3. carry out the nursing process, health care needs assessment, goal setting, plan development and implementation of procedures, evaluation;
  4. carry out specific interventions as a member of a multidisciplinary team in working with people with disabilities and children with disabilities;
  5. promote modern approaches to working with people with disabilities to raise the quality of life.
