amiliarise students with the basics of organisation, management and administration in the field of health care. The acquired knowledge should make students understand the process of  organisation, management and administration, and the gained skills should raise and improve excellence of the nursing practice. 

Theory of management and work organisation. 

Organisational culture of health care work, organisational structure, organisational principles and concepts, organisation of health care work according to management concepts. 

Specific features of strategic management, operational management and organisation in nursing practice.

Tasks of a nurse on all management levels. 

Basic elements and styles of managing human resources in nursing practice. 

Models of work organisation in nursing and supervising processes in nursing practice.

Managing systems of technical and structural support in nursing practice: hospital information systems, medication supply, food distribution, laundry distribution and transport of patients.

Patient categorisation, work organisation of nurses in regards to patients’ needs, calculating necessary number of nurses: in regards to patients’ needs of direct and indirect care.

Principles of team work, building a team and interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach to health care.

Time management in nursing practice, managing changes, as well as ways and principles of decision making. 

Basic principles of quality management in health care, quality management systems, quality standards in nursing practice, process cycle of quality and quality indicators.

Basics of administrative work in health care: nursing documentation, electronic patient chart, e-ward round, planning material and other costs, coordination of work with non-medical offices within the work organisation.

  1. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  2. explain management theories, basic concepts of organization, management and administration in health care;
  3. demonstrate the skills of organization and management in nursing practice: ways of managing at different management levels, the way of delegating tasks and the supervision process in nursing practice;
  4. apply styles and models of human resources management, different models of work organization in the process of health care;
  5. explain the functioning of technical and structural support systems and their application in nursing practice and the principles of teamwork; demonstrate the categorization of patients in nursing practice: organization of the work of nurses in relation to the needs of patients, calculation of the required number of nurses in relation to the needs of patients for direct and indirect health care, time management; 
  6. plan the process of change management in nursing practice;
  7. explain the ways, principles and conditions of decision-making and their application in nursing practice, quality management processes in the field of health care;
  8. explain the principles of administrative work: nursing documentation, patient electronic card, e-visit, ways of planning material and other costs, manner and principles of coordination of work with non-medical services within the work organization.
