HEALTH ECONOMICS 1

The objective of this course is to present the system of health care and interdependence with economic laws and health policy to students and to present the functioning of the system itself.

It starts broadly with a picture of dynamic planning process for health care from macro environment and trends, through evaluation of health needs of the population we serve and available resources, key stakeholders and policies (defined by the system) and finally, to the organisation and functioning of the health care system itself, system management and its financing.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. explain the relationship between economic laws and the health care system;

2. show the peculiarities of health management and describe the assessment of health efficiency;

3. describe the indicators of the health status of the population, the procedure for assessing the health status of the population and the reasons for its implementation;

4. present the principles of health care, define and enumerate its goals, enumerate and describe individual levels of health care;

5. explain the concept of rationalization of health care;

6. describe the basic elements of the health care financing model and the basic health care financing systems in modern countries.
