INTRAHOSPITAL INFECTIONS

Introduce students to the most common microorganisms that are potential causes of intrahospital infections, primarily their habitats, transmission modes, and procedures for preventing their spread in the hospital environment.

Students will be acquainted with the basic features of the most common causes of infections in humans. Through the overview of infections of individual systems, they will be introduced with possible agents, ways in which material for microbiological processing is taken and transported, and measures to be taken so that infectious agents are not transferred. Special emphasis will be placed on preventing the transmission of hospital infections from patient to patient, from patient to healthcare professional and from healthcare professional to patient.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1.know all potential causes of nosocomial infections, method of sampling for detection of pathogens, potential causes of nosocomial infections, methods of microbiological diagnostics;

2. know the work, obligations and responsibilities of the hospital infections team and the hospital infections commission;

3. organize and implement proper behavior in protection against nosocomial infections in their work environments;

4. detect critical points in the work environment and control the conditions in the work environment in terms of preventing the spread of infections;

5. critically evaluate the application of ethical principles in research in the field of nosocomial infections.
