Introduce students to the possibility of practical application of information systems in nursing, in keeping nursing documentation and gathering data for professional and scientific research.
Information systems and databases in nursing: medical informatics terminology, design and use of databases (Access), components and levels of health care information systems (HCIS), role of nursing in HCIS and role of HCIS in nursing, registers as a special type of HCIS, data protection in HCIS, searching information on the internet (bibliographic databases), intelligent information systems, learning systems.
Telemedicine: concept and meaning of telemedicine in nursing, telemonitoring, telecontrol, teleinterventions.

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
1. argue the importance of information in daily work and research through existing or future (necessary) information systems in health care and especially in nursing;
2. explain the terminology of medical informatics and the process of data acquisition, data preparation and data organization using modern technologies;
3. organize data files;
4. create databases;
5. use databases;
6. develop an attitude toward the culture of data protection in health care.
