The objective of the course is to introduce students to the concept of consciousness and disturbances of consciousness.
Consciousness and disturbances of consciousness. Qualitative disturbance of consciousness. Quantitative disturbance of consciousness. Syncope. Somnolence. Spoor. Coma. Delirium. Brain death. Assessment of damage level – Glasgow Coma Scale.

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
1. analyze diseases that are important in assessing the health status of patients with disorders of consciousness;
2. assess disorders of consciousness (eye opening, verbal response, motor response);
3. distinguish qualitative and quantitative disorders of consciousness;
4. assess the degree of impairment using the Glasgow ComaScale.
