The objective of the course is to explain the physiological and pathophysiological processes in the digestive system to students; introduce them to diseases closely related to nutrition, metabolism and gastrointestinal system (metabolic syndrome, diabetes, nutrition disorders). Students will be familiarised with the basic principles of a healthy diet as well as of dietotherapy for various organ system diseases. The impact of diet on the health of the entire body will also be demonstrated to students, with a particular focus on oral health.
Basic principles of a healthy diet. Anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary system. Dietotherapy for organ system diseases. Nutrition disorders, metabolic syndrome, overweightness, diabetes. Energy and nutritional requirements of the body, planning and calculating energy and nutritional requirements of a healthy and sick person. Introduction to and mastering of methods for assessing nutritional status and measures for assessing and improving diet.
