ORAL PHYSIOLOGY AND PATHOPHYSIOLOGY

The objective of the course is to explain the physiology and pathophysiology of the oral cavity, innervation of the oral cavity, the role of the temporomandibular joint and saliva in the physiological and pathophysiological functions of the oral cavity.

Basic physiological and pathophysiological processes in the entire body and the manner in which pathophysiological processes of other organ systems manifest in the oral cavity will also be explained to students.

Structure and physiological function of the oral cavity. Physiological function of the temporomandibular joint. Chewing reflex, types of mastication, controlling mastication. Structure and role of the salivary system. Swallowing reflex. Pain receptors, innervation of the oral cavity. Organ systems and senses (musculoskeletal, digestive, vascular, nervous, respiratory, hormonal, urinary). Pathophysiology of internal organ diseases with oral manifestations.
