DENTAL CARE OF PATIENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

The objective of the course is to introduce dental hygienists to epidemiological and socioeconomical characteristics of this category of patients in our population and to learn the medical aspects of dental care provided to persons with special needs.

Prevention of oral diseases in persons with special needs – oral hygiene

Prevention of oral diseases in persons with special needs – prophylaxis of oral diseases Individual oral disease prevention programme

Persons with high health risks in the dental office, sociomedical significance

Orthodontic treatment of persons with cleft jaw and cleft palate

Orthodontic treatment of persons with severe craniofacial deformities

Premedication and sedation of persons with special needs

Dental care of patients under general anaesthesia

Introduction to the specificities of dental care of patients with special needs, types of disability, communication and dental work options in outpatient institutions

Admission and examination of persons with special needs, care planning, execution (work in an outpatient setting)

Oral hygiene – choice of tools and techniques for maintaining good oral hygiene of persons with special needs Training patients and parents for maintaining proper oral hygiene

Application of prophylactic measures in outpatient settings

Outpatient treatment of patients with high health risks

Dental care of patients under general anaesthesia

Removable orthodontic appliances in patients with cleft jaw and cleft palate

Fixed appliances in patients with severe deformities

Outpatient field work (schools or inpatient institutions for persons with special

needs)
