DENTAL SPECIALTIES

The objective of the course is to introduce students to the following dental specialties: Orthodontics, Dental Prosthetics and Endodontics.

The main objective of the Orthodontics programme is to educate future dental hygienists about assistant and accessory procedures during the orthodontic treatment, theoretical knowledge, adequate application, and specificities of training orthodontic patients about oral hygiene, as well as to teach students the basic concepts related to dental photography, orthodontic materials and orthodontic therapy in general.

The main objective of the Dental Prosthetics programme is to teach students the fundamental biomedical and technological know-how underlying clinical and laboratory work involved in the conventional treatment of partial edentulism and edentulism and corresponding parts of oral soft and hard tissues.

The main objective of the Endodontics programme is to teach students about the aetiology and treatment of diseases of dental pulp and the periradicular area, dental and jaw traumas, materials and medications used in endodontic therapy and endodontic surgery.

PRACTICAL CLASSES

Student obligations pertaining to practical classes include the following:

- familiarising themselves with the basic principles of work with dental prosthetics (materials, equipment and instruments)

- assisting the dentist during dental interventions

- psychological preparation of patients with developmental issues for a dental treatment

- training patients to maintain good hygiene of dental implants

- taking impressions for making diagnostic casts

- positioning casts on the surveyor

- mounting the face bow and transferring the cast to the articulator

- removing temporary crowns.

When attending mandatory practical classes, students are obligated to master and demonstrate practical knowledge acquired in practical classes, during which they will be introduced to all clinical and laboratory stages of making dental implants.

As part of practical classes, students are obligated to participate in the process of educating and monitoring implant restoration of 10 patients.
