Definition of health promotion. Main features of health promotion. Fundamental values of health promotion. Determiners of health and health promotion. Main prerequisite for the development of health promotion. Ottawa charter and other documents for development of health promotion. Key strategies of health promotion: communicating about health, health education, self-help/mutual help, organisational changes, development and mobilisation of community, advocacy, development of health policies directed at health promotion. Specific aspects, features and significance of health promotion in dental medicine. Role of dental medicine doctors in health promotion.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- support the importance of oral health promotion and preventive programs and measures for the preservation of oral health;
- valorize epidemiological data on oral health and CPO-D index in Croatia;
- recommend preventive measures for the preservation and promotion of oral health;
- anticipate the consequences of the social and physical environment on the patient's oral health;
- compare the approach to the promotion and preservation of oral health in different population groups.
