The program of studies in oral surgery teaches students about the first clinical examination of patients, especially with regard to oral surgery issues and the differential diagnosis of pathological changes in the oral cavity. During the study, to enable the student as a dentist in primary health care to know all the techniques of local anesthesia and possible complications, tooth extraction and treatment of all complications during and after extraction. To enable the student to recognize all clinical pictures of odontogenic inflammation and methods of treatment including intraoral incisions and prescribing antibiotic therapy. During the practical part , students must master the possibilities of radiological diagnostics in oral surgery, learn the indications for operations (apicotomy and alveolotomy), recognize cystic processes and know the basic of surgical treatment of cysts of the jaw and surrounding tissues. By teaching the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant changes, detect premalignant and malignant lesions in a timely manner. Teach the student to set indications for pre-prosthetics. Teaching is based on clinical examinations of patients with various pathological processes in the oral cavity and differential diagnosis: odontogenic inflammation, cystic changes, benign tumors, systemic diseases with changes in the oral cavity, treatment of compromised patients and setting indications for preprosthetic surgery. The students assists in surgical procedures in the field of dental surgery: alveolotomy, apicotomy, cystectomy, this is the way students are gaining dexterity and learning about the possibilities of oral surgery in the treatment of dental patients.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Critically evaluate precancerous lesions and carcinomatous conditions in the oral cavity;

2. Master various techniques in radiological diagnosis of the orofacial area;

3. Interpret the pharmacological effects, side effects, indications and contraindications, toxicity of certain groups of drugs used in oral surgery;

4. Acquire the ability to assist in oral surgery;

5. Be able to report basic techniques of tooth extraction on patients;

6. Be able to report basic sewing techniques on patients.
