Maxillofacial surgery

During the lectures the students will be introduced to basic states in the area of maxillofacial surgery: odontogenic and non-odontogenic inflammatory conditions, maxillofacial oncology, trauma of personal skeletal, facial deformities, facial malformations, plastic-reconstructive surgery of head and neck.

Fundamental anatomy of head and neck. Odontogenic abscess. Facial bones trauma. Jaw fractures. Fractures of zygomatic bones. Intraoral oropharyngeal carcinoma.Submandibular and parotid glands. Skin carcinoma and malign melanoma. Oncology of head and neck. Basic surgical methods in treatment of jaw deformities. Cleft lip and palate.Lobes and transplants. Bone healing. Soft tissue and bone augmentation.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Valorize the human anatomy of the head and neck

2. Compare the differences in normal structure and physiology in relation to pathological changes of the head and neck in the presence of tumors

3. Assess the risk of developing malignant diseases of the head and neck of an individual patient with regard to the presence of various risk factors

4. Recommend appropriate pharmacotherapy or surgical therapy to treat head and neck disease
