Module 1 The objective of Neurology studies is to know common neurological diseases, especially those related to oral cavity diseases or those that change access to treatment in dentistry. Students will adopt independent action in certain neurology crisis situations that occur in dental medicine, and access to the patient without a close focus on only one disease.

Module 2 The study of Psychiatry is focused on knowledge of basic psychological and psychosocial characteristics of the population, which should be taken into account in practical work in diagnostics and therapy. Individual basic mental disorders that interfere and in their own way represent specific work in dental medicine surgery. The objective of the course is also to gain a better understanding of those mental states, i.e. psychopathology, which affect patient cooperation. Students will get to know the simplest way to establish a relationship with a patient with mental disorders.

Module 1 Functional nervous system, signs and symptoms of neurological diseases, distribution of neurological diseases, path to neurological diagnosis, selected urgency conditions in neurology, chronic neurological and psychiatric diseases, neurological complications in diseases of other systems.

Module 2 The content of the teaching unit is a meaningful connection of knowledge about etiology and development of individual groups of mental disorders, their clinical image, therapeutic treatment, where each of them is given special importance of which every doctor of dental medicine needs to have knowledge. Contents that are particularly important and necessary for dentists are designed so that students can easily get acquainted with the possibility of obtaining additional knowledge and functional links (relaxation methods, psychotherapy, work with anxious persons...).

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. compare individual diseases of internal organs and organ systems, skin diseases and sexually transmitted diseases as unique clinical entities;
  2. determine the basic pathophysiological mechanisms of internal diseases and their clinical presentation in the oral cavity;
  3. assess differential diagnosis based on clinical presentation;
  4. assess clinical presentation and recommend further diagnostic procedures and the optimal therapeutic procedures;
  5. argue the connection between the oral and systemic health of the patient and the need for interdisciplinary cooperation of dentists with medical specialists.
