Oral Hygiene

The main objective is to give detailed insight into the meaning and method of oral hygiene in order to achieve good oral health in order to achieve general health. 

The curriculum encompasses the introductory part defining the concepts related to oral hygiene and oral health, as well as the goals of the World Health Organisation for achieving optimal general health. In further teaching units, students are approached with the problem of oral hygiene by describing all population groups (starting from pregnancy and infant's earliest age to the elderly) in accordance with the most common dental problem that a certain age carries. The seminar's curriculum covers the field of oral hygiene in children with developmental difficulties and persons with disabilities.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Critically explain mechanical and chemical methods of plaque control;
  2. Self-assess the degree of oral hygiene of the patient using the indices of oral hygiene;
  3. Identify methods of oral hygiene in high-risk patients and patients with special needs;
  4. Prescribe an appropriate oral hygiene protocol adapted to the individual needs of patients;
  5. Assess the importance of oral hygiene in the context of preserving the overall health of the organism.
