Dental implantology

The aim of the course is to familiarise the student with the basics of implant dentistry and the indications for implant prosthetic treatment of completely and partially edentulous patients. They will learn about the preparatory and diagnostic procedures, surgical and prosthetic treatment, and follow-up care of implantology patients.

Principles and conditions for osseointegration. Technological characteristics of dental implants. The relationship between the implant and the mucosa. Indications and contraindications for implant treatment. Diagnostics of the implant patient. Planning of the implant prosthetic restoration. Placement of the implant and protocol of implant loading. Surgical preparation for the implant. Bone grafting procedures. Implants in the aesthetic zone - surgical and prosthetic treatment. Characteristics of a dental crown on an implant. Implants in partially edentulous patients - surgical and prosthetic treatment. Fabrication and characteristics of fixed prosthetic constructions on implants. Temporary restoration. Implants in complete edentulism - surgical and prosthetic treatment. Characteristics of implant-anchored mobile prosthetic constructions. Orthodontic implants and orthodontic treatment in the treatment of implantological patients. Anchorage epitheses on implants. Complications in implantological treatment. Mucositis and peri-implantitis. Monitoring of the implant patient and care of implants and surrounding tissues.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Analyze indications and contraindications for dental implant placement, osseointegration and

experimental models, modern implant systems, equipment and instruments, materials in dental implantology;

2. Compare sewing techniques on models and patients;

3. Critically evaluate the complications of implant treatment;

4. Compare different techniques in radiological diagnostics in implantology.
