Biomaterials in bone and soft tissue regeneration

The goal of the course is for the student to learn the types and indications for certain augmentation techniques, as well as the division and action of the biomaterials that are used.

Introduction - augmentation techniques, indications, contraindications. Guided bone regeneration, Preservation of the alveolus. Biology of alveolar bone. Synthetic biomaterials. Allografts. Xenografts. Autogenous bone grafts. Membranes for guided bone regeneration. Biomaterials in human studies. Biomaterials in animal studies.

Required course materials:

  1. Lindhe J. Klinička parodontologija i dentalna implantologija, Globus, Zagreb, 2004.

Supplemental course materials:

  1. Recentna znanstvena istraživanja iz predmetnog područja

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Identify augmentation techniques;
2. Identify indications for the application of augmentation techniques;
3. Critically explain the division of biomaterials used in the augmentation of soft tissue and bone structures in the oral cavity;
4. Valorize the biological effects of biomaterials on the soft and bone tissues around the teeth
