Pediatric and Preventive Dental Medicine 3

The delivery of the course is based on clinical exercises and seminars in which students apply the knowledge they have acquired and develop their clinical skills. Taking into account the degree of acquisition of knowledge, they independently perform the treatment of pathological changes in the oral cavity in a child. Through clinical work, students will treat more complex cases as the initial examination, diagnosis, treatment plan to the final treatment. Students must practically master the methods of caries prevention, diagnostic procedures, treatment of deciduous teeth and young permanent teeth, treatment of teeth in people with developmental disorders, treatment methods of the most common typesof dentofacial injuries and timely detection of orthodontic anomalies.
In the seminar paper, the student presents a clinical case that he or she has prepared. The lectures serve to repeat the entire material of paediatric and preventive dentistry.

- Interceptive orthodontic procedures

- Modern means for dental fillings in children

- Individualisation of caries risk and possibilities of caries prevention in childhood

- Recognition of child abuse and neglect

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Perform the first systematic examination of the child (extraoral examination, intraoral examination, dental status) with regard to age and developed cooperation with the child

2. Evaluate X-rays in children (intraoral and orthopantomography)

3.Assess the oral hygiene and oral microflora of children, with the indication and implementation of clinical methods for individual mechanical and chemical control of plaque

4. Carry out procedures for prophylactic cleaning of hard and soft dental plaque and sealing of fissures with various forms of topical fluoridation

5. To determine how caries of deciduous and young permanent teeth in children aged 3-18 years is treated with non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures

6. determine the status of growth and development in childhood, compare dental and chronological age and deviations in the dynamics of tooth change
