Assurance of high quality and reliable dental treatment in accordance with existing guidelines and mentors’ advice. To familiarize students with possibilities and adequate advising with the goal of patients’ wellbeing.

A.  POLYCLINIC CONSULTATION AND SPECIALISED HEALTH CARE OF DENTAL MEDICINE

  1. Children’s and preventive dental medicine (paedodontics): 
  • taking medical history and clinical check-up of preschool and school children, 
  • systematic dental check-ups of preschool and school children, determining DMF, SiC index and CAST,
  • conducting treatment plan for preschool and school children,
  • applying procedures to control children’s behaviour in the paedodontics practice, 
  • caries treatment and fillings for preschool and school children,
  • use of topical and infiltration anaesthesia, 
  • extraction of deciduous teeth,
  • medical history, check-up and diagnosis of dentofacial injuries in preschool and school children,
  • emergency treatments for simple and complex injuries of deciduous and first permanent teeth, 
  • learning about principles of work procedures for children with special needs and children with endangered health, 
  • preventive fillings and sealing of fissure and pit on first permanent teeth, 
  • different forms of topical application of florid (solution, gel, varnish, application in spoon with sponge etc.),
  • conducting health education (instructions on diets and oral hygiene), 
  • diagnose malocclusion. 
    1. a) Endodontia and restorative dental medicine 

      b) Periodontics:

  • diagnostics and therapy for aggressive forms of periodontal diseases, 
  • planning periodontal therapy,
  • conducting assisted periodontal therapy,
  • assisting at periodontal surgical procedures,
  • assisting at implant surgical procedures.

c) Oral medicine: 

  • taking medical history and clinical check-up of patient, 
  • diagnostics and therapy of oral diseases, 
  • diagnostics and therapy of ulcerated lesions of oral mucosa,
  • diagnostics and therapy of vesiculobullous disease of oral mucosa,
  • diagnostics and therapy of white and red lesions of oral mucosa,
  • diagnostics and therapy of xerostomia. 
  1. Dental prosthetics: 
  • medical history and clinical check-up,
  • indication for different replacements (dental prosthetics),  
  • getting familiar with clinical aspects of biological, physiological and professional foundations for dental prosthetics, 
  • taking anatomic and functional impressions and applying other clinical procedures when making complete and partial dentures, 
  • participating in making acrylic and veneer crown, 
  • impressions and making custom post and core of teeth and crowns, 
  • familiarising with clinical phases of making dental bridge,
  • familiarising with laboratory phases of making crowns, bridges and prosthetics, 
  • familiarising with laboratory phases of making prosthetics with metal post and core, 
  • metal-ceramic and completely ceramic replacements, 
  • participating in planning and making bridge constructions, 
    • combined procedures, as well as diagnostics and therapy of dysfunctional disorders of dental system. 

4. Oral surgery

  • medical history and clinical check-up of patient,
  • diagnosis of injuries, inflammations and tumours in the maxillofacial region, 
  • using local and conduction infiltration anaesthesia, 
  • learning how to use general anaesthesia (narcosis) for oral-surgical procedures, 
  • extractions of teeth and alveotomy,
  • treating odontogenic abscess,
  • participating in care taking of emergency cases with fractures of alveoli and the jaw as a whole, 
  • learning about emergencies and therapy procedures that are applied to solve them (e.g. anaphylactic shock, cardiac rhythm disturbances etc.),
  • surgical treatment of abscess in cervicofacial region. 

B.  PRIMARY HEALTH CARE OF DENTAL MEDICINE

The purpose of an internship in a facility of primary health protection is to get acquainted and actively participate in the following aspects of primary health protection:

  • epidemiological analysis of prevalence of tooth decay and periodontal disease; assessment of necessary treatment, 
  • epidemiological analysis of dental and oral health in preschool and school children,
  • familiarising with methods and forms of cooperation through polyclinic consultation on dental health protection, 
  • methods and forms of cooperation with other health protection institutions (family medicine, school medicine etc.),
  • types of health documentation and how to maintain it,
  • familiarising with forms of primary preventive measures for caries and periodontal disease prevention, 
  • conducting caries prevention with fluoride preparations, 
  • participating in the work of the counselling centre for pregnant women and newborns (preventive measures and systematic check-ups of mouth and teeth; advice on nutrition and oral hygiene), 
  • conducting health education in schools with the purpose to prevent dental and oral diseases (lectures, short films, pamphlets, posters), 
  • treating caries and diseases of dental pulp, 
  • removing subgingival and supragingival dental calculus (tartar), 
  • patient check-up for dental prosthetics, planning and conducting treatment, 
  • clinical phases of making complete and partial prosthetics, 
  • giving instructions on wearing prosthetics and oral hygiene, 

participating in laboratory work for dental prosthetics and learning about phases of making crowns, bridges and prosthetics.
