Clinical practice (supervised student work)

Ensure quality and reliable dental care in accordance with existing guidelines and mentor guidance. Familiarise students with options and provide timely counselling, all with the goal of ensuring the patient's well-being.

A. POLYCLINIC-CONSILIARY AND SPECIALIST HEALTHCARE OF DENTAL MEDICINE 1. Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry (Pedodontics)
- history taking and clinical examination of preschool and school age children,
- systematic dental examinations of preschool and school-age children and calculation of KEP, KIO and KIZ,
- preparation of a treatment plan for preschool and school-age children,
- application of the procedure for monitoring the behavior of children in the pediatric dental clinic,
- treatment of caries and dental fillings in preschool and school-age children,
- administration of topical anesthesia and infiltration anesthesia,
- extraction of deciduous teeth,
- history, examination and diagnosis of dentofacial injuries in preschool and school-age children,
- urgent therapeutic measures for simple and complicated injuries of deciduous teeth and young permanent teeth,
- familiarization with the principles of the procedure and work with children with developmental disorders and children with health problems,
- making preventive fillings and sealing fissures and pits on young permanent teeth,
- various forms of topical application of fluoride (solutions, gels, varnishes, applications with a spoon and sponge, etc.),
- implementation of health education (instructions on nutrition and oral hygiene),
- diagnosis of dental malocclusions.

- diagnosis and treatment of aggressive forms of periodontal diseases
- planning of periodontal therapy
- implementation of supportive periodontal therapy
- assistance in periodontal surgical procedures
- assistance in implantological-surgical interventions c) Oral medicine
- history taking and clinical examination of the patient,
- diagnosis and therapy of oral diseases.
- diagnosis and therapy of ulcerative lesions of the oral mucosa
- diagnosis and therapy of vesiculobullous lesions of oral mucosa
- diagnosis and therapy of white and red lesions of the oral mucosa
- diagnosis and therapy of xerostomia 3. dental prosthetics
- anamnesis and clinical examination,
- indications for making various dental prosthetic replacements,
- familiarization with the clinical aspects of biological, physiological and professional principles in the fabrication of dental prosthetic replacements,
- taking anatomical and functional impressions and applying other clinical procedures in the fabrication of complete and partial dentures,
- participation in the production of acrylic and facet crowns,
- impressions and fabrication of cast extensions of teeth and crowns,
- familiarization with the clinical stages of bridge fabrication,
- familiarize with the laboratory steps in the production of crowns, bridges and prostheses,
- familiarize with the laboratory steps in the fabrication of prostheses with cast metal base.
- metal-ceramic and all-ceramic restorations
- participation in the planning and design of bridge constructions.
- combined work as well as diagnostics and therapy of dysfunctional disorders of the stomatognathic system.
4. Oral surgery
- anamnesis and clinical examination of the patient,
- diagnosis of injuries, inflammations and tumors in the maxillofacial region,
- administration of local and conductive infiltration anesthesia,
- instruction in the administration of general anesthesia (narcosis) for oral surgical procedures,
- tooth extractions and alveotomy,
- treatment of odontogenic abscesses,
- participation in the care of emergency situations in fractures of the alveolar processes and the entire jaw,
- familiarization with emergency situations and therapeutic procedures for their resolution (e.g. anaphylactic shock, cardiac disorders, etc.),
- surgical treatment of abscesses in the cervicofacial area. 

 

B. PRIMARY HEALTH CARE OF DENTAL MEDICINE
The internship of a trainee in a primary health care facility aims to familiarize and actively participate in the following aspects of primary health care:
- epidemiological analysis of the prevalence of dental and periodontal diseases and assessment of the necessary treatment,
- epidemiological analysis of dental and oral health of preschool and school age children,
- familiarization with the way and forms of cooperation with the dental care of polyclinics and the Council,
- ways and forms of cooperation with other forms of health care (general medicine, orthodox medicine, etc.),
- types and management of medical records,
- familiarization with the forms of primary preventive measures for the prevention of caries and periodontal diseases,
- implementation of caries prevention with fluoride preparations,
- participation in the work of counseling centers for pregnant women and newborns (preventive measures and systematic examinations of the mouth and teeth; counseling on nutrition and oral hygiene),
- conducting health education in schools on prevention of dental and oral diseases (lectures, films, brochures, posters),
- treatment of dental caries and dental pulp diseases,
- removal of subgingival and supragingival calculus,
- examination of patients for dental prosthetic restorations, planning and implementation of treatment,
- clinical phases of fabrication of dentures and partial dentures,
- instructions for wearing prosthetic work and oral hygiene,
- participation in the dental prosthetics laboratory and familiarization with the phases of fabrication of crowns, bridges and prostheses.

After passing the exam in this course, the student will be able to:
1. Compare physiological and pathological changes in the oral cavity;
2. Determine and differentially diagnose radiological changes in the oral cavity;
3. Evaluate therapeutic options for the therapeutic possibilities of treating diseases of the hard and soft dental tissues and oral mucosa;
4. Master the communication skills necessary to work in a dental team.
5. Propose appropriate pharmacotherapy in the treatment of oral diseases and know pharmacography.
