Local-regional anaesthesia and analgesia

Knowledge acquirement about the possibilities of usage of modern methods of regional analgetic techniques and drugs, usage risks, advantages and disadvantages in modern dental practice, as well as knowledge acquirement about anatomy with ultrasound and pathophysiology of pain, central mechanisms of neuro modelling of the pain and indications, contraindications, complications of newest invasive procedures and treatment of acute and chronic disease. 

  1. Neurobiology of pain. Pharmacology of local anaesthetic.
  2. Pharmacology of vasoconstrictor, clinical drug effect.
  3. Preparation and usage of instruments (injections, drugs, instruments, basic techniques of drug usage).
  4. Physical and psychological evaluation of patient. Techniques of regional anaesthesia in dental medicine, anatomy signs and regional techniques of maxillary and mandibular anaesthesia, other central blocks, and blocks of peripheral nerves. 

Unwanted events; medical-legal questions and future of pain treatment, local and system complications.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:                     

1.Define different methods of anxiety control and pain control

2. Explain the basic procedures of regional anesthesia in dentistry

3. Remember the methods of regional anesthesia in dentistry

4. Define local anesthetics and understand the toxicity of local anesthetics

5. Explain treatment for local anesthetic toxicity and adverse events of other drugs

6. Prepare patients on anticoagulation and antiplatelet therapy for anesthesia in dentistry

7. Explain pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods of treating acute pain after dental procedures

8. Remember the procedures of basic and advanced life support
