Children’s and Preventive Dental Medicine 1

The purpose of teaching children's and preventive dentistry is to ensure the mastery of knowledge necessary for planning, implementation and monitoring of treatment of pulp diseases of deciduous and young permanent teeth, as well as diagnosis, planning and implementation of treatment of traumatized deciduous and young permanent teeth. It is necessary to master the basic procedures for the reconstruction of fractured teeth. The aim is also to get acquainted with and master the basic procedures for pain control and various forms of local anesthesia in children. It is also necessary to gain the knowledge and skills needed to perform small oral surgeries in children.
Teaching content in pediatric dentistry should provide the student with knowledge about the specifics of growth and development of dental and orofacial structures, the specifics of pathology, pathogenesis and course of treatment of teeth and mouth of patients of childhood and adolescence. A special task is to master the knowledge needed to work with children with disabilities, with special emphasis on the specifics of pathology and treatment of persons with different types of physical, mental or emotional handicap. Students must also acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to apply various procedures to control a child's behavior and basic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for the treatment of hard and soft tissue diseases in deciduous and permanent dentition. They should also master the procedures for diagnosing and treating the most common dental injuries in children as well as the available methods for their prevention.
