Mastering biological and clinical principles as well as basic practical skills so that students are qualified to attend basics of periodontal, restorative and prosthetic procedures on a patient in the fourth year.
Ergonomics and preparation of therapist, work area and patient. Procedures to prevent infection transmission. Instruments, their use and maintenance. Instruments to remove hard and soft dental plaque, scaling and root planing. Instruments for tooth preparation (turbine, contra-angle handpiece, cutter) and tooth restoration (matrix, plugger, additional tools for impressions, impression materials). Handling metals and learning dental techniques of soldering. Tooth preparation for different anchors for fixed prosthetics and impressions. Laboratory procedures of making anchors for fixed prosthetics (making master model, preparation for individual master model, modulation until complete metal crown is finished, veneer crown, composite crown). Making parapulpal pins for fixed prosthetics. Learning about parts of complete and partial denture, making wire clasps, individual acrylic impression trays, bite impression on shellac base plate. Making temporary crown through direct method. Clinical and histological features of carious lesion, epidemiology of caries, diagnostics, prevention and treatment, risk assessment. Prevention of decay of dental pulp. Relative/absolute work area. Cavity preparation for amalgam and filling. Cavity preparation for composite materials and filling.
