Surgery

Students of dental medicine will learn surgical propedeutics to the same extent as a medical student. They will learn how to gradually set up a diagnosis of surgical diseases or injuries associated with dental organs from the medical history data, clinical examination, and tests. They will learn to provide first aid for such diseases or injuries on their own, learn the proper way of treatment and they will learn about the future potential development of treatment.

Conditions for surgical work. Surgical instruments. Surgical materials. Basic surgical technique. Principles for the treatment and curing of surgical infections. General traumatology. General plastic surgery and plastic surgery of the face. General neurosurgery and treatment surgery for the neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve. Determination and differential diagnosis of breath from the mouth. Surgery in emergency situations.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. To determine the mechanism of tissue damage, to describe the process of tissue healing, disorders in wound healing and the impact of inflammatory factors on the whole organism
  2. Valorize basic surgical techniques and principles of asepsis and antisepsis in the treatment of surgical patients
  3. Assess the most common acute surgical diseases, describe diseases and conditions that require surgical treatment and distinguish diseases and conditions that require urgent surgical treatment
  4. Assess appropriate procedures in surgical conditions and diseases that directly endanger the life of patients
  5. Identify and perform preoperative treatment of patients for elective surgery
  6. Determine and conduct postoperative monitoring and treatment of a surgical patient in consultation with a specialist in a particular surgical branch and specialists in other branches of medicine
